After falling in love with bicycling in the late 1970s, I embarked on a tour from San Francisco down the California coast with three friends. I was hooked. My second journey was a much longer endeavor: cycling across America from Southern California to New York City. The third was riding the Trans-America Bicycle Route from Oregon to Virginia with my wife (See the Blog Posts Below). Each trip was filled with breathtaking scenery, unpredictable weather, wonderful people, and pure adventure. My book is pulled directly from the journals I kept, blending personal stories with the history of the places I crossed. After 150,000 lifetime miles and 60 tours, it was time for me to share these journeys. I hope they motivate you to launch an adventure of your own.
